Fishy chat from Rich

Currently, Snapper fishing has been going great, especially in shallower water, 20 to 30m has been providing good numbers of Snapper including some solid specimans!  Also even shallower if the swell isn’t too big of course! Berley definitely helps bring them around without too much risk of attracting sharks at this time of year.

Gurnard in good numbers are hanging around inshore as well. They are mainly feeding on crabs and sea biscuits in this depth range. Bonito and Squid are the recommended baits.Kingfish if they haven’t already will be moving away from the various reef systems out to deeper water for the winter months.

Raglan Harbour has also been fishing well for Snapper, Kahawai and Trevally, especially out in the entrance focusing around the bottom of the tide. The last hour or so of the out going tide and first couple of hours of the incoming tide seems to be the best time, although over the larger tides the fishing seems to be harder for some reason? Same advice for anyone surfcasting out at the entrance.

Stay safe and enjoy any windows to sneak out on the water
