A Bit of Fishing Chat

A bit of chat from the Fishermans Corner

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook and check out our YouTube adventures! What a great summer fishing season we have had on the west coast this year. Best marlin season on record as far I'm concerned and I've been involved since the first marlin was caught off Raglan in 1989.

Early season the fish were in good numbers between 100-130m. By the time February arrived there seemed to be 2 hot areas with great fishing between 80-110m and also inshore between 40-60m with the added bonus of catching a range of Tuna species not seen in numbers out west for a very long time. Yellowfin, Bluefin and Bigeye Tuna all featured in catches.

During January and February, the Snapper and general bottom fishing seemed to be more consistent in the deeper water 60-80m, although off Ruapuke beach in 40-50 producing good fishing at times. March onwards started producing good Snapper fishing in the shallower water especially up north, off the likes of Gibsons Beach and Crayfish Point in depths of 15-25m.
